Field Service Technician

Provide technical support to customers, install and maintain Ross equipment.  Tasks include telephone support for installation, troubleshooting, and repairing equipment, as well as coordinating service parts shipments.  Perform “hands on” equipment installation and maintenance at customer locations, inside and outside of USA.  

Perform equipment demonstrations for existing and prospective customers, on and off site.  Expect to travel up to 85% of the time, including some weekends.  Technicians will be on site at Ross when not traveling.  Successful candidates must be willing to relocate to Virginia and/or within the surrounding area, some relocation assistance is available.

Qualifications:

  • Comprehensive experience in troubleshooting and maintaining complex electrical, mechanical and pneumatic systems
  • Familiarity with PLC controls and related software
  • Strong mechanical and electromechanical skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent customer service
  • Associate’s Degree or Technical Degree or combination of formal training in mechanical, pneumaticr electrical systems or equivalent training and experience
  • Three plus years in troubleshooting and maintaining complex mechanical, pneumatic, or electrical systems or relative military technician training/experience
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, travel extensively, and availability to work weekends
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds
  • Ability to withstand extensive walking and standing, crawling under machinery, ability to bend, stoop, and twist at the waist
  • Must have valid driver’s license
  • Must have valid passport or ability to obtain one

Director of Engineering

Director of Engineering will oversee management of all areas of Engineering.  This is a leadership role in designing new machines and features for existing equipment.  To direct daily activities and ensuring schedules are met with quality and within cost objectives.  The role priorities include, process improvement, problem resolution, project management, employee training, as well as assist with overall company direction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist company officers and senior staff members in the development and formulation of long and short-range planning, policies, programs and objectives.
  • Develop engineering plan and establish procedures for maintaining high standards of operations to ensure that products conform to established customer and company quality standards.
  • Perform research, design and development of engineering processes including process improvement, cost reduction, and value engineering.
  • Coordinates engineering launch of new/revised products including establishing goals, training team members, and evaluating results. 
  • Lead and directs engineering team and other departments to ensure cohesion between units and departments.
  • Designs, develops, and test/and/or sources and cost justifies various tools, machines and equipment.
  • Apply statistical methods and perform product/process analysis for cost reduction and improved efficiency.
  • Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing techniques. 
  • Achieve optimum employee levels with least amount of overhead and raw material costs to meet annual budgetary plan.
  • Formulate and recommend manufacturing policies and programs that guide the organization in maintaining and improving its competitive position and the profitability of the operation.
  • Direct and monitor department managers to accomplish established goals.  Act as liaison between department management/subordinate levels, as well as, executive/department manager levels to inform personnel of communications, decisions, policies and all matters that affect their performance, attitudes and results.
  • Leadership – demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others.
  • Identify, recommend and implement changes to improve productivity and reduce cost and scrap, monitor scrap and rework data. Direct the establishment, implementation and maintenance of production standards.
  • Work effectively and relate well with others. Exhibit a professional manner in dealing with others, working to maintain constructive working relationships.
  • Keep current on information and technology affecting functional areas to increase innovation and ensure compliance.
  • Relationship with others:  must work effectively and relate well with others including superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside of the organization.  Must exhibit a professional manner in dealing with others and works to maintain constructive working relationships.

Education and/or Experience:

  • BA/BS in engineering, or a 4-year technical degree in related discipline.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical engineering or related major or equivalent combination of education of experience. 
  • 10+ years of experience in Engineering including hands on management.  Successful candidates will have considerable exposure and skill in the food industry, specifically packaging and processing divisions. 
  • Experience working with manufacturing based technology, processes and principles is preferred.
  • Ensure compliance with Company standards for cost control, waste reduction, quality, OSHA, safety, and complete and on-time delivery at the lowest possible cost.
  • Daily supervision of a team of managers, and engineering personnel.
